Kyocera Solar, Inc. and H & H Solar Energy Deliver the Largest PV Installation in the State of Wisconsin

System is expected to generate an estimated 55,000 kWh per year

Largest PV in Wisconsin

Milwaukee, WI - January 22, 2007 - Kyocera Solar, Inc., a world-leading supplier of photovoltaic (PV) systems, announced the completion of a 44.4 kW solar electric system atop Urban Ecology Center, a neighborhood based, non-profit community center located in Milwaukee's historic Riverside Park. The system is the largest solar electric installation in the state of Wisconsin to date.

The system, originally installed in 2004 by H&H Solar Energy Services, started out as a 48 module array. With the addition of 208 modules, the completed system now consists of 256 Kyocera KC-175 GT modules, 16 SMA Sunny Boy 2500U inverters and a Unirac Solar mount structure attached to the standing seam roof.

“No moving parts to break, a 25 year guarantee, and an annual savings of over $10,000 … what is not to like,” added Ken Leinbach, Executive Director of Urban Ecology Center.

Over the modules’ 25 year warranty, the system will produce 55,000 kWh each year. The Center as a whole uses 140,000 kWh each year, offsetting about 40% of the building’s total energy use.

Solar output from the system will help avoid 106,860 lbs (or 53.4 tons) of carbon dioxide (CO2) from entering the atmosphere annually.

Though Leinbach’s main focus is on conserving the environment, he says he plans to take advantage of financial incentives that the system provides by participating in the We Energies Incentive Program, which serves more than 1.1 million electric customers in Wisconsin and Michigan.

“Since UEC will be paid 22.5 cents/kWh under the We Energies solar buy-back rate, whereas we only pay about 9 cents/kWh for what we need to buy from We Energies, if you do the math we could come close to paying no electricity bill netted out over an entire year,” added Leinbach.

In addition to We Energies, other programs such as Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy, work with eligible Wisconsin residents and businesses to install cost effective energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

Between April 2002 and December 2004, 228 renewable energy projects were completed with the assistance of Wisconsin’s Renewable Energy Programs.

“Many of these organizations preach the benefits of renewable energy and sustainable practices. The Urban Ecology Center is preaching, practicing and especially teaching these ideals to a generation of people who will set the standards for years to come,” added Andrew Bangert, Manager/Lead Installer, H & H Solar Energy Services and one of four NABCEP certified installers in Wisconsin.

“H & H Solar Energy Services is extremely honored and proud to be a part of such an aggressive, responsible approach to energy concerns, now and in the future,” Bangert concluded.
